Wright-Giemsa dye is a mixture of basic dyes (methylene blue) that color blue and acid dyes (eosin) that color red
Thus, the acid components of the cell (nucleus, cytoplasmic RNA, basophilic granules) are colored blue or purple and the basic components of the cell (Hb, eosinophilic granules) are colored red or orange.
