Giemsa staining is primarily used for staining chromatin and nuclear membranes, including the cytoplasm of various cell types. Giemsa staining is most commonly used to stain azurophilic granules compared to red blood cells and neutrophils. It also accurately stains inclusion bodies present in the smear.
