HydroFix is a mixture of methyl and isopropyl alcohols specially formulated to ensure effective and controlled tissue dehydration—the essential first step in the histological processing.
Traditionally used alcohols, generally ethanol (denatured or undenatured), tend to over-dehydrate small pieces, particularly biopsies, as well as samples that have been immersed for too long. This is because ethyl alcohol is a very powerful dehydrating agent that removes not only free water, but also some of the water bound to tissue structures.
However, optimal dehydration consists of removing only free water while preserving bound water.
Thanks to its specific formulation, HydroFix preserves this bound water. The result: tissues that retain their flexibility, do not become brittle when cut, and offer superior quality sections.
HydroFix also improves lipid extraction, promoting complete clearing and facilitating the cutting of fatty tissues.
Used as a cytoplasmic differentiation agent in H&E and HPS staining techniques, HydroFix produces sharper, brighter stains and better contrast. It is also an excellent solvent for special stains.
Completely unregulated, HydroFix does not require any of the registrations or licenses required for the use of pure ethanol.
If you want to improve the sectioning quality of biopsies and fatty tissue, start by optimizing your dehydration step with HydroFix.
